Premier Tech社もイスラエルをチーム名から外すよう要求。Factorに同調

今年のブエルタ・ア・エスパーニャでの親パレスチナデモの余波で揺れるロードレース界。特にその問題の中心にいるのがイスラエル国籍のProTeamであるIsrael-Premier Techだ。

同チームについてはこの前の記事【バイクブランドFactor「イスラエルがチーム名と国旗を変えないなら契約をやめる」】で、チームバイクを供給する英国ブランドFactorがチーム側にイスラエルとの関係が見えなくなるよう要求したことを紹介した。

そして今回、ついにタイトルスポンサーであるカナダの企業Premier Tech社も、そうしたFactorの要求に同調することが明らかとなった。

カナダ政府は今月G7の中で最も早くパレスチナを国家承認しており、カナダ企業はそうした民意と同じ方向を向くことになるだろう。

同社のプレスリリースでは次のように述べている。

We are sensitive and attentive to the situation on the international scene, which has evolved considerably since our arrival on the World Tour in 2017, reads the press release from Premier Tech, a multinational company headquartered in Rivière-du-Loup, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Involved in cycling for more than 30 years, Premier Tech has always placed the development of the sport and Quebec and Canadian cyclists at the heart of its involvement.

“Our expectation is that the team will move to a new name that excludes the term Israel, and that it will adopt a new identity and brand image ,”（太字化は🐷によるもの）

として、こうした同社の要求が叶えられるならばチームのスポンサーを降りないと主張する。
