マーク・レンショー引退

今年のDimesion Dataのツール出場選手については、Mark Cavendishの落選にともない、長きの間その女房役としてトレインを担ってきた盟友Mark Renshawも選出されなかった。そのRenshawがついに引退を表明した。

今年の10月で37歳となるRenshawおじさんが、引退する時期は今年のおわり。来年からはMark Cavendish、Mark Renshaw、Bernhard Eisel、Edvald Boasson Hagenが作る中年トレインが見られなくなる。悲しい。
今回の引退表明でRenshawおじさんはこう述べる。
“I know it’s the right time to step away from racing, my body and mind won’t allow me to perform and compete to the level that’s required for a race like the Tour de France. I am very fortunate to be able to make the decision to finish this chapter of my life on my terms, and I’m hugely excited about my future ventures.”

訳「レースの世界から卒業する頃合いかなと思ってる。これ以上歳を取ると、肉体的にも精神的にも衰え、もうツール・ド・フランスのような次元のレースでは十分なパフォーマンスが出せなくなるやろなと思ってるんよ。ほんまに幸運にも、こうやって自分で自分の人生に一区切りをつける決定ができたわけ。これからの第2の人生をめっちゃ楽しみしてるんよ」
もし、Mark Cavendishが今年のツールに選ばれていれば、Renshawおじさんもおそらく選ばれ、現役最後のツール・ド・フランスになってたはず･････かと思ったんやけど、どうやらそうではないみたい。今年のレース計画どおりだったらしい。

訳「今年のツールに出ないけど、これは年初から考えたことなんよ。」
“It’s a race that has played a massive part in my career and in my eyes is the greatest sporting event in the world. I have been fortunate enough to be selected 10 times and have loved every moment of the Tour.”

訳「ツールはワシのキャリアの中でめっちゃ大きな部分を占めるレースやし、ワシが思うに世界でもっとも素晴らしいスポーツイベントや。幸運にもそんなツールにこれまで10回も参加できたし、ツールで過ごした全ての瞬間が大切な思い出なんや」
